Spielberg's dynamic touch can evoke impressionistic images: dreams of summer flowers in the depth of winter ("Dreaming of Summer"), delicate snow flurries and crystalline stillness ("Forgiving Winter"), the tip-toe silent mistiness of the wee hours ("2 AM Gardener"), or a soaring soundtrack for nocturnal adventures ("Flying"). As Spielberg explains, she's derived ample emotional fodder for her creations from friendship, the steadfast love of her husband, and pensive moments in the surgery waiting room. Her playing is so expressive that flowers often seem to bloom through the stereo speakers. This is a lovely album for playing in the background, but don't be surprised if Dreaming of Summer lures you into a sunny reverie.
